West Liberty University Athletics

    An incredibly skilled and versatile athlete, Wilbur Scott earned a staggering 17 athletic letters in five sports at West Liberty just before the start of World War II. Scott was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball, earned three more letters in tennis and even boxed a couple of years for the Hilltopper boxing team.
    Scott is best remembered for his football prowess as he played on three West Virginia Conference championship squads, was a two-time All-WVIAC selection and helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 25-10-1 record during his four varsity seasons. Scott was honored as "Mr. Hilltopper" following the 1940-41 school year.
    After graduation, Scott joined the United States Navy in 1942 and served for five years on the battleship USS Wisconsin. Upon the completion of his military service, Scott spent three decades as a teacher and administrator with Prince George’s (Md.) County Schools.
