One of West Liberty's first great football players, Joe Druzisky was a mainstay of the Hilltoppers' offensive line for four straight years during the early 1930s. Playing his first two years under Harry Sweeney and his final two seasons for the legendary Joe Bartell, he found the time to be part of the drama and choral groups and a member of the Trumpet staff. He also served as president of the student body for the 1934-35 school year.
After graduating from West Liberty in 1935, Druzisky continued to pursue a variety of interests. He entered the business world as a credit manager from 1936 to 1943 when he joined the U.S. Army to fight in World War II. Serving in the military from 1943 to 1945, he helped organize the Army's chemical warfare museum before returning to civilian life in 1946.
After leaving the Army, Druzisky spent the next 18 years working as a beverage manufacturer before leaving in 1963 to pursue a career in education. At the time of his induction, he was approaching his 25th year as a teacher in the Beaver (Pa.) and Ambridge (Pa.) school systems.
