Eli Mumley was a three-time All-West Virginia Conference basketball scoring machine for several post-war Hilltopper squads.
Mumley emerged as one of the leading scorers in the WVIAC during his sophomore season, pouring in 436 points to earn first-team All-WVIAC laurels. He repeated as a first-team selection the following season when he lit up the nets for 557 points, an average of 23.2 ppg.
The deadly shooter capped his career with a third All-Conference citation, leading the Hilltoppers on a late-season run that ended with 60-57 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan in the semifinals of the WVIAC Tournament. In addition to his basketball exploits, the talented athlete also lettered in golf during the 1949 and 1950 spring seasons.
Mumley's 1,475 career points stood as a school record from his graduation in 1950 to 1956 when Tom Ackerman eclipsed the mark with 1,834 points. Following graduation, Mumley worked for many years as a sales representative with Picoma Industries.
