    A former three-sport athlete on the hilltop, Dr. Vince Monseau attained legendary status as head coach of the West Liberty wrestling program for more than three decades. The Weirton, W.Va. native played football, wrestling and track while working toward his bachelor's degree at West Liberty and went on to earn his master's and doctorate from WVU. After a decade as a highly successful high school coach, Monseau broke into the collegiate coaching ranks at Peru State (Neb.). Chosen as runner-up for the collegiate Rookie Wrestling Coach of the Year by the Amateur Wrestling News, he began his legendary run at West Liberty the following year.
    With Monseau at the helm from 1973-2004, the Hilltopper wrestlers were forces to be reckoned with on the national scene. Monseau's Hilltoppers recorded eight Top 10 national finishes during his tenure, highlighted by a national runner-up finish at the 1995 NAIA Nationals. West Liberty moved into NCAA Division II the following year and the Black and Gold made its presence felt with a sixth-place finish, crowning one individual national champion and five NCAA Division II All-Americans. Monseau’s teams compiled an impressive 359-221-7 dual-meet record during his 32 seasons, producing 72 All-Americans, 34 Academic All-Americans and 6 national champions.
    Regarded as one of the top coaches and administrators in the sport over the years, Monseau is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame, the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame and the OVAC Hall of Fame. He served as Director of the 1979 and 1987 NAIA National Championships, was an administrative assistant at the 2003 NCAA Division II Nationals and was honored as a Lifetime Member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association in 2004.
