Al Tiano was a two-way standout on Coach Joe Bartell's West Liberty football powerhouses of the late 1940s. A four-year letterman, Tiano helped the Hilltoppers go 32-4 from 1946-49 with unbeaten seasons in 1947 and 1949. West Liberty reeled off a 23-game conference winning streak during that span.
Tiano was an outstanding offensive and defensive end who also excelled on special teams, returning a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown in a win against Concord. The Hilltoppers suffered only one West Virginia Conference loss during Tiano's four-year career.
After graduating from West Liberty, Tiano worked for the state of Pennsylvania in several capacities before spending the better part of two decades as a teacher and football coach at his alma mater, Washington (Pa.) Trinity High School.
