Tom Pannett was a man for all seasons at West Liberty, earning a dozen letters across four sports during a stellar collegiate career. A four-year football letterman, Pannett set a WLSC and WVIAC record in 1961 with five interceptions in a 20-7 win against Concord. His 22 career interceptions were also a school record at the time of his induction.
A two-time All-WVIAC selection in football, Pannett was a first-team pick as a senior and also earned honorable mention All-America honors that same season. In addition to his football exploits, Pannett was a four-year letterman in track as a sprinter and high jumper, played three years of tennis and had one season with the swimming team.
The Trumpet student newspaper chose Pannett as West Liberty's Athlete of the Year for the 1963-64 academic year. After graduation, Pannett embarked on a highly-successful coaching and teaching career. He led Wheeling High School to its only state championship before its consolidation before moving into educational administration in the Marion (Ohio) School District.
