Hall of Fame
Walt Tolarchyk was a football and wrestling standout at West Liberty during the early 1960s who went on to establish himself as one of the top high school wrestling coaches in the region. Tolarchyk was a four-year starter and team captain on the Hilltopper football team. A member of the wrestling team from 1962-64, Tolarchyk was a two-time WVIAC champion and an NAIA national qualifier who went 30-3 on the mat.
After graduating from West Liberty, Tolarchyk set about building a wrestling dynasty at North Canton (Ohio) Hoover High School. At the time of his induction, Tolarchyk had coached 10 undefeated teams and compiled a sparkling dual meet record of 295-34-3. His wrestlers had won 14 sectional titles, four district titles and posted a pair of state tournament runner-up finishes.
The 1983 Ohio High School Coach of the Year, Tolarchyk was a 14-time Stark County Coach of the Year and a 10-time conference Coach of the Year. A 1984 Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club honoree, Tolarchyk is a member and past Co-Chairman of the Ohio High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
