Peggy Miller was the first female to be inducted into the West Liberty Hall of Fame in recognition of her incredible career as a women's sports pioneer on the hilltop campus. Miller defined the term "all-around athlete" as she competed at a high level on every Hilltopper women's sports team of her era - basketball, softball, volleyball and field hockey. She received numerous awards from the physical education department, student government, and her sorority for her achievements. Sadly, those were the only type of recognition given to women athletes at that time.
Miller's talents were on full display when she earned All-Mideast Region honors after being selected to play for a Pittsburgh field hockey team competing in the Mideast Regional Tournament. Many of the women Miller competed against during that even were eventually selected to participate on the United States Olympic Field Hockey Team.
After graduating from West Liberty, Miller began her coaching and teaching career at Skyvue (Ohio) High School. Three years later, she was hired at Brooke (W.Va.) High School, coaching basketball and tennis for several years. At the time of her induction, she was chairperson of the Physical Education Department at Brooke High.
