Frank Ujcich enjoyed a storied four-year baseball career on the hilltop from 1962-65. The Most Valuable Player of the 1964 NAIA World Series – West Liberty's first national championship in any team sport – Ujcich was named to the West Virginia Conference's all-time baseball team in 1974.
The 4-time All-WVIAC standout was an overpowering presence on the mound. In four varsity seasons, he posted a 27-7 mark with four consecutive ERAs below 2.00. Ujcich exploded onto the national scene at the 1964 NAIA World Series when he helped the Hilltoppers fight their way back out of the loser's bracket with 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings – still an NAIA World Series record.
Following a brief stint pitching in the New York Mets organization, Ujcich returned to the Ohio Valley as a teacher and coach. He then spent several years working for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel before returning to the education field in 1985.
