A two-time All-West Virginia Conference selection in basketball, Jim Tegley was the leading scorer on West Liberty's 1961 WVIAC championship team.
Called "the best player in the conference" by head coach Ollie Olson during that senior season, Tegley was the Hilltoppers' leading scorer in each of his final two campaigns on the hardwood. That earned him back-to-back All-WVIAC honors and he also earned berths on the WVIAC All-Tournament Team in both seasons.
The versatile Tegley, who also played on the men's tennis team, was selected as West Liberty's Most Outstanding Athlete for the 1960-61 academic year by the WLSC Alumni Association and was named to the WVIAC's 50th Anniversary All-Conference Team when it was announced in 1974.
After graduating from West Liberty, Tegley headed west to pursue a successful teaching and coaching career in California.
