Scott Shipman put together an unbelievable four-year mat career on the hilltop from 1993-97. Wrestling for Coach Vince Monseau’s nationally powerhouse, Shipman helped lead the Hilltoppers to an impressive 50-5-1 dual record, including four consecutive Top 10 finishes in the National Wrestling Championships.
Shipman was a dazzling 119-19 on the mat – including a perfect 30-0 mark during his national championship season in 1996 – and is one of only two 4-time wrestling All-Americans to wear the Black and Gold. He placed seventh at the NAIA nationals as a freshman and was runner-up as a sophomore before claiming West Liberty's first NCAA II national championship during his unbeaten 1996-97 season. His bid for a repeat title fell short as a senior when he suffered a severe knee injury at Nationals and finished sixth.
Just as impressive in the classroom, Shipman earned two national Scholar All-American awards and graduated with a 3.40 GPA before embarking on a highly-successful collegiate coaching career.
