A three-time All-Conference lineman during the "Golden Era" of Hilltopper football, Ed Davidek was a standout guard on legendary Coach Joe Bartell’s powerhouse football teams of the 1940s. During Davidek’s 4-year career (1946-49), Coach Joe Bartell's Hilltoppers posted a tremendous 32-3-3 record - highlighted by an unbeaten 8-0-2 mark in the 1947 campaign.
Davidek only played in one losing contest in his entire career as he did not join the team until the third game of his freshman year. The 4-year regular and 3-time All-WVIAC honoree ended his stellar career on a high note with West Liberty's 20-0 shutout win against Western Carolina in the 1949 Smokey Mountain Bowl.
After graduating in 1950, Davidek spent more than three decades as an educator with most of his time working at Springdale High School. He retired in 1984.
