JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – West Liberty University's Adam Gill punched his ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championship, highlighting the Hilltoppers' performance at the Atlantic/East Regional, which concluded Saturday at Sunnehanna Country Club.
Gill capped off a strong three-day showing by finishing tied for fourth overall at +3 (73-67-73), earning one of the individual qualifying spots to nationals. He finished just four shots off the tournament lead and was firmly in contention throughout the final round after entering the day one shot back.
With the top teams advancing automatically, Gill secured his place among the region's top individual performers not on qualifying teams, advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship (May 18–22) at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
As a team, West Liberty finished 13th overall at +51 (15-14-22) in a highly competitive 20-team field. Gannon and Charleston shared the team title at +21, while Wheeling claimed the final team qualifying spot at +26.
Justin Doerr turned in a consistent tournament for the Hilltoppers, finishing tied for 30th at +9 (72-74-75). Ethan Cook placed tied for 78th at +19 (75-75-79), while Carter Stewart finished tied for 91st at +24 (75-78-81). Brandon Lawhon rounded out the lineup in a tie for 96th at +26 (77-82-79).
Gill's performance continued his late-season surge, becoming the first Hilltopper to qualify for the national championship as an individual in recent years and giving West Liberty a strong presence on the national stage.
