CLAYSVILLE, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team battled throughout the lineup on Friday morning but came up short in a 5-2 decision against Frostburg State at McGuffey High School.

Frostburg State claimed the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. The Hilltoppers' top duo of Maria Martirosyan and Ana Sánchez put together the most competitive showing, falling 6-4 in the No. 1 position.

West Liberty responded with strong efforts in singles, highlighted by a standout performance from Martirosyan at No. 1. The freshman earned a gritty straight-set victory over Julia Ramos, winning both sets in tiebreakers, 7-6 (11-8), 7-6 (9-6), in one of the most competitive matches of the day.

Kaylex Gibson added the other point for the Hilltoppers with a dominant showing at No. 6 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Dunia Abdo.

Despite the two wins, Frostburg State secured the match with victories in the remaining four singles flights. Ximena Ku defeated Sánchez at No. 2, while Alyssa Kush, Ella Troxell, and Claudia Coombes each picked up straight-set wins to clinch the result.
