CLAYSVILLE, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to University of Charleston on Saturday afternoon at McGuffey High School.
Charleston secured the early momentum by sweeping the two contested doubles matches to earn the team point. The duo of Sara Martinez and Sofiia Krasikova defeated Maria Martirosyan and Ana Sánchez, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles, while Viola Hirzberger and Vanessa Mueller followed with a 6-1 victory over Courtney Curnutte and Sanchita Dabas at No. 2.
In singles play, Charleston clinched the match with three straight-set victories. Martinez topped Martirosyan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Krasikova earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Sánchez in the No. 2 position.
Mueller sealed the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Curnutte.
Matches at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, along with No. 3 doubles, were not contested following the clinch.
West Liberty will look to regroup as the Hilltoppers continue Mountain East Conference play Sunday when they host Davis & Elkins at Noon.
