INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team fell 7-0 on the road to West Virginia State Friday afternoon at the Marvin D. Mills Tennis Complex.
The Yellow Jackets claimed the early momentum by sweeping doubles play. The Hilltoppers' best showing came at No. 3 doubles, where Elle Monaco and Gabrielle Pasco battled but ultimately fell 6-4.
West Virginia State carried that momentum into singles, taking all six matches to secure the sweep.
West Liberty saw its strongest performances at the top of the lineup. Maria Martirosyan pushed her No. 1 singles match to a third-set super tiebreak before narrowly falling 7-6, 6-7, 10-8. Ana Sanchez and Sanchita Dabas also forced three-set matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively, but came up short in decisive sets.
