ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road to Davis & Elkins on Sunday afternoon.

The match turned early during doubles play as West Liberty was forced to adjust its lineup following an injury. The No. 1 doubles pair of Ana Sánchez and Maria Martirosyan held a 3-2 lead before Sánchez suffered an ankle injury while playing the net, forcing the duo to retire from the match. Davis & Elkins capitalized from there, sweeping the remaining doubles contests to claim the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles action, the Senators extended their lead with a walkover victory at No. 1 singles due to Sánchez's injury. Despite the setback, the Hilltoppers found a bright spot at No. 2 singles, where Martirosyan earned West Liberty's lone point with a strong 6-4, 6-2 win over Liebe Oosthuizen.

Davis & Elkins secured the team victory with wins at the remaining singles positions. Fabienne Lahn defeated Sanchita Dabas (6-2, 6-0), while Erin Laubscher topped Gabrielle Pasco (6-0, 6-0). Emiliana Golac earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elle Monaco, and Maddie Frazier closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Kaylex Gibson.

West Liberty was also without Courtney Curnutte, who missed the match due to a wrist injury.

The Hilltoppers will look to bounce back in their next outing as they host Frostburg State to continue Mountain East Conference play.
