ROANOKE, W.Va. — West Liberty's men's golf team will compete for the Mountain East Conference championship Sunday through Tuesday at Stonewall Resort's Arnold Palmer Signature Course.
The three-day championship gets underway Sunday, Oct. 4, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6. The MEC Championship features 54 holes of stroke play, with teams completing one round each day.
West Liberty will be represented by
Ethan Cook,
Justin Doerr,
Chatum Courson,
Adam Gill and
Carter Stewart.
Cook will occupy the No. 1 position in the Hilltopper lineup, followed by Doerr at No. 2, Courson at No. 3, Gill at No. 4 and Stewart at No. 5.
Head coach
Noah Seivertson said the Hilltoppers have been working hard in preparation for the championship.
"Super excited to see what the guys can do this weekend! They've all been working super hard the past couple of weeks to get ready for this, and all have been playing some really good golf!"
The Hilltoppers will take on a challenging Stonewall Resort layout, with Seivertson pointing to course management as a key factor throughout the championship.
"Stonewall is a pretty difficult course, with a lot of high grass and trouble throughout. I think the key to this week will be keeping the ball in play, and limiting big numbers on the scorecard."
West Liberty has recent experience at Stonewall Resort, giving the Hilltoppers a familiar reference point heading into the championship.
"Our last time playing there we turned in a round of even par as a team, so just looking to build on that!"
The Hilltoppers will have three consecutive days of competition as they battle for the conference championship, with the first round scheduled for Sunday, followed by the second round Monday and the third and final round Tuesday.
