Four Hilltoppers Earn All-MEC Honors at Men's Golf Championship

ROANOKE, W.Va. — The West Liberty University men's golf team closed out the 2026 Mountain East Conference Championship with a third-place finish Tuesday at Stonewall Resort, while four Hilltoppers earned All-MEC recognition following three rounds of championship competition.

West Liberty carded a 300 (+12) in Tuesday's final round at the Palmer Course to finish the 54-hole championship at 899 (+35). The Hilltoppers opened the championship with a 299 (+11) and followed with a 300 (+12) in Monday's second round before matching that score in the final round.

Glenville State claimed the team championship, while Wheeling finished second. West Liberty's 300 in Tuesday's final round was the third-best team score of the day, trailing only Glenville State and Wheeling, which each posted rounds of 292 (+4).

Senior Justin Doerr and senior Ethan Cook earned All-MEC First Team honors following standout championship performances. Doerr also earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Doerr closed the championship with a 75 (+3) Tuesday, finishing fourth in the final round and among the tournament's top individual performers. Cook carded a 73 (+1) in the final round, tying for sixth on the day.

Sophomore Adam Gill was named to the All-MEC Second Team after another strong championship showing.

Gill shot a 77 (+5) in Tuesday's final round and finished 10th in the round.

Freshman Chatum Courson earned All-MEC Honorable Mention after making an immediate impact in his first MEC Championship.

Courson carded a 75 (+3) in Tuesday's final round, tying for 19th in the day's individual standings.

West Liberty's championship lineup produced a balanced effort throughout the three-day event.

Doerr and Cook led the way in Tuesday's final round, with Doerr's 75 and Cook's 73 joined by Gill's 77 and Courson's 75 to produce the Hilltoppers' 300 team score.

The championship was played over 54 holes on the 7,046-yard, par-72 Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort, with the MEC's 11 men's golf programs competing for the conference title.
