Davis, W.Va. – Carding the first sub-par 54-hole score of the year for the West Liberty men's golf team,
Brandon Lawhon led the team lineup to a tie for 12
th at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational. The seven Hilltopper golfers combined for eight rounds of even or under par, the most in any of WLU's four tournaments thus far. The Black & Gold team lineup recorded rounds of 290 (+2), 291 (+3), and 285 (-3) for a 54-hole score of 866 (+2) on Monday and Tuesday at the Canaan Valley Golf Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandon Lawhon secured the first sub-par 54-hole score of the season for the West Liberty men's golf team, finishing in a tie for 26th with a score of 213 (-3). He carded scores of 74 (+2) and 71 (-1) before notching a team-low round for the tournament at 68 (-4). He tallied nine birdies, with four of them coming in the third round.
- The top individual at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitation for WLU was Noah Seivertson, who finished tied for 35th with a season-best 3-round total of 216 (E). He opened Monday with a 73 (+1) before carding his first sub-par round of the year at 70 (-2). He concluded the day on Tuesday with a 73 (+1). He recorded ten birdies and one eagle during the invitational.
- Derek Graham was second in the Hilltopper team lineup, finishing in a tie for 44th overall with a score of 217 (+1). Graham carded a pair of 70 (-2) rounds in rounds one and three and scored a 77 (+5) in round two. He notched a pair of eagles in the tournament and added seven birdies.
- Justin Doerr opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of even par 72 rounds and added a 74 (+2) third round for a 54-hole total of 218 (+2). Doerr finished the tournament in a tie for 47th and added eight birdies.
- Playing in the team lineup for the first time this season, Ethan Cook totaled a 3-round score of 219 (+3) to tie for 54th overall at the Canaan Valley Resort. He saw a two stroke improvement from round one to round two, with scores of 74 (+2) and 72 (E), before finishing the tournament with a 73 (+1) third round. Cook notched one eagle and eight birdies over the course of Monday and Tuesday.
- Bo Orecchio rounded out the West Liberty team lineup with a 54-hole score of 228 (+12), finishing in a tie for 81st. He saw one stroke improvements in each round, shooting a 77 (+5) in round one, 76 (+4) in round two, and 75 (+3) in three. He tallied four birdies over the course of the tournament.
- The final West Liberty golfer competing at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational was Jayson Beckner competing as an individual. Beckner shot a 228 (+12) and finished in a tie for 81st overall after carding a pair of 75 (+3) rounds in round one and two, followed by a 78 (+6) in round three. He notched six birdies over the course of the tournament.
