CALABASH, N.C. – The West Liberty University men's golf team wrapped up play Saturday at the Larry and Wally Edgell Battle at Brunswick, finishing ninth in a competitive 16-team field at Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort.
The Hilltoppers posted a three-round score of +58, improving slightly over the final round with an 18-over team score after opening the tournament with rounds of +16 and +24. The event was hosted by Fairmont State and featured several regional Division II programs.
Charleston (W.Va.) captured the team title at +26, while Bluefield State finished second at +32 and tied with its "B" team and California (Pa.) for third at +34.
West Liberty was led by Ethan Cook, who tied for 13th place individually with a 7-over-par total for the tournament. Cook turned in rounds of +4, +1, and +2, finishing among the top 15 in a field of more than 90 golfers.
Justin Doerr was the next Hilltopper on the leaderboard, tying for 30th place at +12 with rounds of +1, +8, and +3. Adam Gill added a +16 performance to finish tied for 40th, highlighted by a strong +3 final round.
Brandon Lawhon tied for 67th with a +24 total, while Carter Stewart rounded out the West Liberty lineup in 89th place at +36.
Individually, Josh Cummins (Longwood) claimed medalist honors at 2-under par, finishing one stroke ahead of Bluefield State's Joseph Emery.
