WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday as the Hilltoppers compete in the 2026 Vulcan Fire Classic, hosted by California (Pa.) at Lone Pine Country Club.
The two-day event will feature a strong NCAA Division II field, including Gannon, Shepherd, Wheeling, Malone, Millersville, Glenville State, Point Park, PennWest Clarion, and host PennWest California.
West Liberty enters the tournament looking to build momentum following its last outing at the Larry and Wally Edgell Battle at Brunswick in North Carolina.
The Hilltoppers finished ninth in a competitive 16-team field, highlighted by a steady performance from Ethan Cook. The sophomore led West Liberty with a 7-over-par finish, tying for 13th overall while posting consistent rounds of +4, +1, and +2.
Justin Doerr also turned in a solid showing, finishing tied for 30th at +12, while Adam Gill closed strong with a +3 final round on his way to a top-40 finish.
As a team, West Liberty showed improvement down the stretch in its last event, shaving strokes in the final round—something the Hilltoppers will look to carry over this week.
Lone Pine Country Club provides a familiar regional test, and with several Mountain East Conference programs in the field, the Vulcan Fire Classic offers an early measuring stick against league competition this spring.
The tournament will be played over 36 holes across two days, with live scoring available throughout the event.
