Hilltoppers Finish Ninth at MEC Spring Classic

WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic on Wednesday, finishing ninth overall at Oglebay Resort.

The two-day event, hosted by Wheeling University, featured a competitive field of regional programs, with Glenville State capturing the team title at 4-under par. California (Pa.) (+4) and Davis & Elkins (+8) rounded out the top three.

West Liberty posted a two-round total of +28, carding a +15 in Monday's opening round before finishing with a +13 on Tuesday to secure ninth place in the standings.

Leading the way for the Hilltoppers was Adam Gill, who turned in a strong performance to tie for 15th overall at +3. Gill followed up an opening round of 73 (+1) with a 74 (+2) in the final round, finishing among the top individual performers in the field.

Justin Doerr also delivered a solid showing, finishing tied for 37th at +8 after improving by six strokes on the second day with a 73 (+1).

Ethan Cook and Brandon Lawhon each tied for 42nd at +9. Cook posted rounds of 79 and 74, while Lawhon rebounded from an even-par opening round with a 81 on day two.

Rounding out the team scoring, Carter Stewart finished tied for 77th at +18.
