West Liberty, W.Va. - Freshman Maria Martirosyan of the West Liberty University women's tennis team earns Hilltopper of the Week honors after a standout performance at the top of the lineup against Frostburg State University.
The Yerevan, Armenia native delivered one of the most impressive individual efforts of the match, battling to a hard-fought victory at No. 1 singles. Facing a tough opponent in Julia Ramos, Martirosyan showcased resilience and composure, winning both sets in dramatic fashion, 7-6 (11-8), 7-6 (9-6). Her straight-set win came in the most competitive match of the day and accounted for one of West Liberty's two team points.
Martirosyan also competed at No. 1 doubles alongside Ana Sánchez, where the duo pushed Frostburg State's top pair before falling 6-4 in a tightly contested match.
In her freshman campaign, Martirosyan has quickly established herself as a key piece of the Hilltoppers' lineup, consistently competing at the highest level and delivering under pressure. Her performance this week highlighted not only her skill but her poise in crucial moments.
