CLAYSVILLE, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Frostburg State on Friday at McGuffey High School in Mountain East Conference play.
Frostburg State set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The pairing of Ethan Shepard and Pablo Zubieta battled in the top flight but fell 6-2, while Barney Cowan and Austin Zgurski dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 2.
In singles play, the Bobcats continued their momentum, claiming all six matches to secure the sweep. Pablo Zubieta pushed competitively at No. 1 before falling 6-2, 6-1, while Ethan Shepard picked up a game in each set at No. 3 singles.
The most tightly contested match of the day came at No. 5 singles, where Barney Cowan bounced back after dropping the opening set to take the second, forcing a deciding super tiebreak. Despite the rally, Cowan ultimately fell 10-6 in the breaker.
Chris Burns also battled at No. 6 singles, dropping a competitive 6-4, 6-4 decision.
