CLAYSVILLE, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to University of Charleston on Saturday afternoon at McGuffey High School.
Charleston secured the early advantage by sweeping the contested doubles matches to claim the team point. The duo of Vicente Garcia and Marcelo Pinto defeated West Liberty's Ethan Shepard and Pablo Zubieta, 6-0, at No. 1, while Alberto Nordio and Ryan Abell followed with a 6-1 victory over Austin Zgurski and Ignacio Giurfa at No. 2.
In singles play, Charleston continued its momentum, winning all four completed matches in straight sets. Garcia topped Zubieta at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), while Abell earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Shepard in the No. 2 position.
Nordio claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Giurfa at No. 3 singles, and Pinto closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Zgurski at No. 4.
Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, along with No. 3 doubles, were not contested.
West Liberty will look to bounce back in its next outing as the Hilltoppers continue Mountain East Conference play Sunday when they host Davis & Elkins at Noon.
