BEDFORD, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's golf team turned in a strong two-day performance at the Bedford Springs Invitational, finishing tied for second overall while Adam Gill captured medalist honors to lead the Hilltoppers.
West Liberty posted a 36-hole total of +16 (7, 9), finishing just one stroke behind team champion Glenville State (+15). The Hilltoppers shared second place with West Chester in a tightly contested field.
Gill highlighted the tournament with a dominant performance, finishing at 2-under par to tie for first before securing the individual title in a playoff. The Hilltopper standout clinched medalist honors with a clutch par on hole 17, capping off an impressive two-day showing.
Justin Doerr also delivered a strong tournament for West Liberty, finishing fifth overall at +1. His under-par opening round helped pace the Hilltoppers early and kept them in contention throughout the event.
West Liberty's depth proved to be a key factor in its runner-up finish. Ethan Cook turned in a solid performance at +7, while Carter Stewart finished at +10. Brandon Lawhon rounded out the lineup with a +13 total.
As a team, the Hilltoppers held the day-one lead and remained in the hunt throughout the final round before narrowly missing the team title by a single stroke.
Up next, West Liberty will compete in the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional, scheduled for May 7-9 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa.
