BEDFORD, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the Bedford Springs Invitational, firing a +7 team score on Monday at Bedford Springs Resort.
The Hilltoppers hold a one-shot advantage over Glenville State (+8) and lead a tightly packed field that includes Wheeling, California (Pa.), and Pitt-Johnstown (B), all tied for third at +12.
West Liberty was paced by a pair of standout individual performances, as Adam Gill and Justin Doerr both finished under par to position themselves near the top of the leaderboard. Gill is tied for first after an impressive 2-under round, while Doerr sits alone in third at 1-under.
The Hilltoppers showcased strong depth across the lineup, with Carter Stewart and Ethan Cook each posting rounds of 5-over to contribute to the team's leading score. Brandon Lawhon rounded out the scoring five with a 7-over effort.
West Liberty's balanced performance proved to be the difference on a challenging Bedford Springs layout, as the Hilltoppers were one of just two teams to finish within single digits over par in the opening round.
The final round of the 36-hole event is set for Tuesday, where West Liberty will look to maintain its narrow lead and secure the team title against a competitive regional field.
