WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Three members of Coach
Justin Simpson's rising track and field program at West Liberty University were honored on Thursday when
Hannah Kemp,
Kelsi Hulit and
Michael Harriman were voted onto the 2022 NCAA Division II Academic All-District® 2 Track and Field/Cross Country Team.
Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the 2022 Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined achievements on the field and in the classroom.
A junior Exercise Physiology major from Bethesda, Ohio with a near-perfect 3.98 GPA, Kemp earned NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors for the second straight year after dominating seasons on the track and the trails. A 2-time MEC Cross Country Runner of the Year, Kemp has also earned multiple All-Region citations in cross country and track. She came up mere seconds shy of qualifying for the NCAA Division II Nationals in the fall with a Top 10 finish in the Atlantic Region cross country meet and capped her year by winning the 2022 CRA National Collegiate Trail Championship earlier this month. A perennial member of the MEC All-Academic Team, Kemp has also been honored as a USTFCCCA National Scholar-Athlete.
A senior Speech Pathology and Audiology major from Malvern, Ohio with an impressive 3.82 cumulative GPA, Hulit put an exclamation point on another spectacular year by qualifying for the NCAA D2 Nationals in the discus – WLU's first national track and field qualifier in six years. A 2-time All-Region selection, Hulit swept the shot and discus events at this year's MEC Outdoor Championship meet and was the shot and weight throw champion at the MEC Indoor Championships. In the outdoor season, she ranked No. 2 regionally and 15th nationally in the discus while also posting Top 20 regional numbers in the shot and hammer. Hulit has been named to multiple MEC All-Academic Teams and is also a 2-time USTFCCCA National Scholar-Athlete.
A senior Finance major from Wheeling Park High School who carried a sparkling 3.95 cumulative GPA, Harriman is another repeat NCAA Division II Academic All-District honoree for the Black and Gold. The Hilltopper veteran earned All-Region honors in cross country and indoor track this season while also picking up an MEC championship with a winning effort in the 800-meter finals at the MEC Championship meet earlier this month – one of the Top 10 times in the Atlantic Region this spring. A perennial selection to the MEC All-Academic Team, Harriman is also a 2-time USTFCCCA National Scholar-Athlete.
The 2022 Academic All-District® 2 Track and Field/Cross Country Teams include student-athletes from the Mountain East Conference (MEC), Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) along with independents Bluefield State and Salem (W.Va.).
As first-team Academic All-District® selections, all three Hilltoppers automatically advance to the ballot for the 2022 NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Track and Field/Cross Country Team. The 2022 NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Track and Field/Cross Country Teams will be announced in June.
