WARREN, Ohio – Two members of the West Liberty University women's golf team played their way into the thick of the medal chase during Monday's opening round of the Mountain East Conference Championships here at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.

Alexis Ramby posted identical rounds of 9-over-par 81 at the 5,965-yard par 72 layout to join Davis & Elkins' Dorothy Romanek and Fairmont State's Sydney Brill in a four-way tie for third place in the medal standings after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event.
That left Pettit and Ramby just four shots behind first-round leader Emily Holzopfel of Wheeling, who shot a 5-over-par 77, with West Virginia Wesleyan's Kiana Toole holding down second place at 7-over-par 79.
Wheeling held the first round lead in the team standings with an 18-hole score of 337. Glenville State was three shots back at 340 with West Virginia Wesleyan (345), Charleston (350) and Fairmont State (355) rounding out the top five.
Davis and Elkins (365) squeezed past the Hilltoppers (368) for sixth place with Concord (371) and Notre Dame (378) completing the list.
Second round action gets under way Tuesday morning at Avalon Lakes.
