    BRIDGEPORT, Ohio – West Liberty University sophomore Howard Peterson IV was honored Wednesday as the first Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week for the 2019-20 season.
    The former Weirton (W.Va.) Madonna High School star came up big for head coach Mike Ricci in the Hilltoppers' runaway season-opening win at the Mount Union Invitational.
    Peterson helped the Black and Gold jump out to an early lead with a 1-under-par 71 in Friday's opening round and followed that up with a 73 on Saturday to share runner-up medal honors with fellow WLU sophomore Alex Easthom.
    The Hilltoppers return to action on Sunday when they open play in the Glade Springs Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Charleston in Daniels, W.Va.
