WINNIPEG, Man. – Former West Liberty University defensive back Terrance Baldwin has signed a free agent contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
According to a Winnipeg news release, the 2018 Hilltopper alum made a big impression on the Bombers' coaching staff during a recent workout in his home state of Florida when the speedy cornerback was clocked at 4.38 and 4.39 in back-to-back 40-yard dashes.
Winnipeg is coming off a strong 2018 season, coming up one game shy of a berth in the CFL championship game with a 22-14 loss to eventual Grey Cup champion Calgary in the West Division final. Mike O'Shea is heading into his sixth season as head coach of the Blue Bombers.
Baldwin was an honorable mention All-MEC selection as a senior when he was charted with 34 tackles – 25 solo – and a team-high 7 pass break-ups. The 4-year starter, clinched the Hilltoppers' season-opening 24-21 win against Urbana with a 63-yard interception return TD midway through the fourth quarter.
An outstanding "cover" corner, Baldwin led West Liberty in pass break-ups and passes defensed each of his last three seasons. In 43 career games, he was charted with 167 tackles – 133 solo – with 30 pass break-ups.
This year's Hilltoppers are roughly midway through their spring practice sessions. West Liberty will close out spring drills on April 20 with the annual Black and Gold scrimmage at West Family Stadium.
