West Liberty Basketball to Host Annual Cancer Awareness Game Sunday in Support of Trevor Cherry

2/20/2026 4:00:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's basketball teams will unite Sunday for their annual Cancer Awareness Game as the Hilltoppers host Concord University in a doubleheader at the ASRC.

This year, West Liberty will Play in Support of Trevor Cherry, a former WLU student-athlete currently battling Stage 4 colon cancer.

The women tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m., marking the final regular-season home games for both programs.

"This game is way bigger than any scoreboard," said women's head coach Kyle Cooper. "It's our annual cancer awareness game, and we're proud to partner with men's basketball to support one of our own."

Men's head coach Mike Lamberti emphasized the opportunity to make an impact beyond the hardwood.

"The ASRC has helped us win a lot of games on the court," Lamberti said. "Sunday, we have a chance to win one off it."

Cherry remains closely connected to the Hilltop community, and Cooper encouraged Topper Nation to rally behind him.

"Trevor is in a tough battle right now, and he needs all of us," Cooper said. "As an alum and someone who represents this place so well, he deserves our support. Every gift will go directly to Trevor and his family."

How to Help
