DANIELS, W.Va. – West Liberty University junior men's golf standout
Sean Trapp mounted a late surge here Tuesday to earn a Top 10 finish in a highly-competitive field at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate Championships at The Resort at Glade Springs.
Trapp, a junior All-MEC and All-Region returnee for WLU head coach
Mike Ricci, fired a 1-over-par 73 at the 7,203-yard Stonehaven layout on Tuesday to move up seven spots in the final medal standings.
Trapp's three-day total of 8-over-par 224 boosted him into a five-way tie for eighth place in a loaded 23-team field that featured nationally-ranked squads from as far away as Arkansas and Oklahoma. Arkansas Tech's Shawn Tsai took medal honors with a 4-under-par 212, three shots better than runner-up Zach James of Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Hilltoppers finished 10
th in the team competition with a three-day total of 929. While that was more than 50 strokes off the blistering pace set by Arkansas Tech, which posted a 54-hole total of 14-over-par 878 to run away with team title, the Black and Gold was only 9 shots shy of a top five finish.
Southeastern Oklahoma State was second at 887 with Mercyhurst (907), Charleston (913) and Concord (920) rounding out the top five. Gannon (922) and Southern New Hampshire (923) followed while West Chester and Clarion tied for eighth place at 927, just two shots ahead of the Hilltoppers.
