MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – West Liberty University senior offensive lineman Larry Wriedt is on the radar for a postseason all-star game after being named to yet another NCAA Division II Preseason All-America Team.
The 6-7, 320-pound tackle was a second-team choice on the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) 2011 Preseason All-America Team.
The CDFL All-America Team is chosen by the committee in charge of selections for the inaugural “D2 vs. NAIA Senior Bowl,” which will be played on Dec. 3, 2011 in Middletown, N.Y.
“Today's announcement of our NCAA Division II and NAIA Preseason All-America Teams reflects our continuing commitment to the players in the small-college arena,” said co-founder Peter St. Lawrence. “This is one of our three postseason scouting bowl games which serve to promote and showcase the exceptional talent found on the collegiate level beyond the BCS schools.”
Earlier this summer, Wriedt was a first-team NCAA Division II Preseason All-America choice by Lindy's College Football 2011 Preview magazine and a second-team selection on the Preseason All-America Team selected by Consensus Draft Services, Inc.
A transfer from Sacramento (Calif.) City College, Wriedt started every game at right tackle for last year's Hilltoppers, helping West Liberty become the first NCAA Division II team ever to lead the nation in scoring and total offense in back-to-back seasons.
Following the 2010 season, Wriedt was a first-team All-WVIAC and All-Region selection and was a second-team honoree on the Don Hansen Football Gazette's NCAA Division II All-America team.
Wriedt and his West Liberty teammates are currently in the midst of preseason drills on the WLU campus. The Hilltoppers are scheduled to kick off the 2011 campaign on Sept. 3 with a non-conference road game at Edinboro (Pa.).
