CANTON, Ohio – The man who made more 3-point field goals than any player in West Liberty University men's basketball history is taking his long-range shooting skills to the next level.

According to a story in his hometown newspaper, Barry Shetzer has signed to play for CAB Madeira in the Portuguese Men's Basketball League for the 2011-12 season.

Here's a link to Josh Weir's story in Friday's Canton (Ohio) Repository: Barry Shetzer Signs Pro Contract.

CAB Madeira is located in the city of Funchal on the Portuguese resort island of Madeira, a popular cruise ship port located approximately 300 miles west of the African continent and 500 miles southwest of Portugal.

The 2011 West Liberty graduate helped lead the Hilltoppers to a No. 1 national ranking and their first-ever NCAA Division II Final Four berth this past winter, averaging 16.4 ppg. while draining a school single-season record 119 3-point field goals for a West Liberty team which led the nation in scoring at a sizzling 111.3 ppg. clip.

The only Hilltopper ever to make more than 100 3-point field goals in back-to-back seasons, Shetzer also holds the school's career 3-point record with 284 3-pointers and was one of four senior starters to pass the 1,000-point milestone with 1,326 points. The 6-5 senior guard closed out his career as an All-West Virginia Conference, All-Atlantic Region and NABC All-District selection.
