WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams return to action Thursday and Friday as they travel to University of Akron for the Northeast Ohio Open at the Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex.
The two-day meet will feature a deep and competitive field of programs including University of Akron, Kent State University, Lake Erie College, Marietta College, Ohio Dominican University, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Robert Morris University, Walsh University, West Liberty, and Wilberforce University—providing another strong test for the Hilltoppers as they continue their outdoor season.
West Liberty enters the weekend coming off a strong all-around performance at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational, where the Hilltoppers produced multiple event wins and podium finishes.
On the men's side, Tristin Ohler highlighted the meet with a dominant sprint double, winning both the 100 meters (10.69) and 200 meters (21.33). Ethan Furbee continued his strong season in the field events, capturing the high jump title with a clearance of 1.90 meters, while John Bowen added a third-place finish in the pole vault.
The Hilltoppers also saw depth in the distance events, with Zachary Workman placing third in the 1500 meters and Francis Toohey close behind in fourth. Dominic Gianangeli (400m) and Christian Rutherford (800m) each posted top-six finishes, while both relay teams continued to excel with a runner-up finish in the 4x100 and a third-place showing in the 4x400.
On the women's side, Brookelyn Reynolds led the way with a second-place finish in the 400 meters, while Sierra Lanham added a fourth-place showing in the 200.
West Liberty's distance group also impressed, paced by Lacey Dimit's third-place finish in the 1500 meters, with Naomi Young and Gretchen House adding top-eight performances. In the hurdles, Marissa Scott (4th) and Sophie Abraham (7th) contributed valuable points.
In the field events, Sierra Davis turned in a strong all-around performance, placing third in the discus while also finishing sixth in the shot put and eighth in the hammer throw. Ava Hoffman added a sixth-place finish in the high jump.
The women's relay teams mirrored the success of the men, finishing second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400.
Field events are scheduled to begin Thursday, with running events on Friday.
