Charleston, W.Va. - The West Liberty men's golf team competed Monday in the opening round of the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic at Berry Hills Country Club. The Hilltoppers were led by Jayson Beckner, who carded a +8 (78) to pace the squad. Beckner showed consistency throughout his round, highlighted by a steady 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back.
Brogan Bennett and Eirik Lindholm both turned in rounds of 81 (+11). Bennett had a strong start with a 39 on the front nine but encountered challenges on the back, closing with a 42. Lindholm found his rhythm late, finishing with a 38 on the back nine after a tough 43 on the front.
Justin Doerr was just one stroke behind, posting an 82 (+12). Doerr navigated a challenging front nine, shooting 43, before bouncing back with a more consistent 39 on the back.
Rounding out the West Liberty lineup, Noah Seivertson posted an 83 (+13). He recorded a 40 on the front nine but had some struggles on the back, closing with a 43.
Playing independently Awethu Mkhwanazi fired an 81 and Tyler Sauric shot a 92.
In the team scoring the Hilltoppers are fifth at +42. Round two tees off at Noon, Tuesday.Â
