Wheeling, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team held steady on day two of the MEC Spring Classic at Oglebay Resort's Palmer Golf Course as they closed out their tournament in a tie for third with an overall score of 576 (+8). With three players in the team lineup carding a 72 or better on Tuesday, WLU carded a final round score of 290 (+6). Today's results also went towards the 5-round stroke average in MEC sponsored events (MEC Fall Championships & MEC Spring Classic) for the selection of all-conference teams, leading to
Derek Graham earning an All-MEC Second Team nod while
Bo Orecchio earned All-MEC Honorable Mention.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Derek Graham was still able to secure a top-10 finish and a season low 36-hole score of 139 (-3) in the MEC Spring Classic, despite falling four spots on the player's leaderboard with a second round score of 72 (+1). After hitting a double bogey on hole one to start the day, he responded by securing his second eagle of the tournament with a score of three on a par five hole 2. He added a pair of birdies on holes 3 and 18 to score par or better on 14 of today's 18 holes.
- Playing as an individual in his first tournament of the spring, Ethan Cook shot six strokes better than his season average entering the week as he turned in a second round score of 72 (+1) to finish in a tie for 12th overall at 143 (+1). After carding a two over par score of 38 with the aid of one birdie on the front nine, he used an eagle on hole 18 to cap a four stroke improvement with a one under par score of 34 on the back nine of the Palmer Course. He scored par or better on 14 of today's 18 holes.
- Bo Orecchio matched his score from yesterday's opening round with another score of 72 (+1) to finish the tournament in a tie for 16th place with a season low 36-hole score of 144 (+2). Using a total of four birdies in the afternoon, two on the front nine and two on the back nine, he scored par or better on 13 of Tuesday's 18 holes.
- Noah Seivertson jumped four spots on the player's leaderboard in today's second round as he notched his third round of par or better this season with an even par 71, bringing his 36-hole total to 144 (+2) to tie for 16th overall. He used a pair of birdies in Tuesday's round to even out two bogeys, scoring par or better on 16 holes in the Palmer Course's 18 hole layout.
- Awethu Mkhwanazi fell a pair of spots on the player's leaderboard on day two, carding a 75 (+4) to total a 36-hole season low of 149 (+7) at the MEC Spring Classic. After shooting par on his first three holes of the day, he mixed a pair of birdies into a stretch where he bogeyed six of nine holes before bouncing back ending the day with six straight holes of par.
- Rounding out the WLU team lineup was Justin Doerr who fell seven spots to a tie for 40th with a second round score of 80 (+9) as he brought his overall total to 156 (+14). After scoring par on five of the first nine holes, he got off to a strong start on the back nine with consecutive birdies on holes 10 and 11. He ended the day with scores of par on three of the final seven holes on the Palmer Golf Course.
- Jayson Beckner was the second Hilltopper individual golfer competing at the MEC Spring Classic, falling one spot on the player's leaderboard on day two with a second round score of 79 (+8) for a season low 36-hole total of 157 (+15). He started the day with scores of par on nine of the first 12 holes and ended the day with his tenth par as he halted a stretch of five consecutive bogeys.

West Liberty will travel to Erie, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 13, to compete at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational. The two round, 36-hole tournament, will take place over the course of just one day at the Lake View Country Club.
