West Liberty, W.Va. – With the announcement of the 2024 league schedule by the Mountain East Conference on Thursday afternoon, the West Liberty University football schedule is now complete. The upcoming slate for the Hilltoppers will feature six home games at West Family Stadium, including three straight to open the season and four of the first five contests of the year. Additionally, the Black & Gold will kick-off the campaign with two non-conference match-ups, the first time since 2013 that WLU has played two non-league opponents in a single season. The MEC grid will consist of nine conference games with all ten football playing schools competing in a true round-robin schedule.
West Liberty will open the season under the lights at West Family Stadium with Walsh making the return trip following the 2023 season opener in the Buckeye State as the teams are set for a 7 p.m. week 0 kick-off on Thursday, August 29. The second non-conference match-up for the Hilltoppers will also be a Thursday night battle under the lights, as they welcome the first of two NCAA DII Football Playoff qualifiers to the hilltop, playing host to Limestone. The match-up with the Saints will be a 7 p.m. kick-off at West Family Stadium on September 5.
The conference slate gets underway on September 14 as West Liberty hosts Frostburg State in the annual Hall of Fame Game which will be a 1 p.m. kick-off on the hilltop, marking the third consecutive home game to open the 2024 season. Following a bye in week 3, the Hilltoppers make their first road trip of the year with a trip to Institute, West Virginia, and a match-up with West Virginia State on September 28. WLU will return home for the fourth home contest in their first five games of the season as they play host to Concord on October 5 with 1 p.m. kick-off scheduled at West Family Stadium.
The second half of the season will see West Liberty's focus turn to the road as they play four of their final six games away from home. The Hilltoppers only game out of the Mountain State in 2024 will be a trip south to MEC affiliate member, UNC Pembroke, on October 12, before returning home to host West Virginia Wesleyan in their Homecoming match-up on October 19 at 1 p.m. at West Family Stadium. The final game in the month of October for WLU will be a visit to Glenville State on October 26.
West Liberty will host Senior Day on November 2 as they round out the home slate by welcoming the reigning MEC Champions and 2023 NCAA Division II Football Playoff qualifier, Charleston, to West Family Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick-off. The 2024 regular season will conclude for the Hilltoppers with two games away from home, playing at Fairmont State on November 9 and at Wheeling on November 16.
