LEXINGTON, Va. – West Liberty University junior women's golf standout Erin Shockey used a strong finish on the final day of the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic here Sunday to nail down a spot on the 2023 All-Mountain East Conference Team.
The MEC announced its All-Conference honor roll on Sunday immediately after the conclusion of its final event of the season, the MEC Spring Classic hosted by the Lexington Golf and Country Club.
The All-MEC Men's and Women's Golf Teams are based on the players' scores at the 54-hole MEC Championship Tournament in the fall and the 36-hole MEC Spring Classic. Players must post scores from all five rounds to qualify for All-MEC consideration.
A junior from Carrollton, Ohio, Shockey shaved four strokes off her opening-round score on Sunday with a 9-over-par 81 to pull into a tie for 12th place in the final medal standings. That clinched an Honorable Mention spot on the All-MEC Team for the Buckeye State native.
Charleston's Iciar Canalejo swept the MEC Freshman of the Year and MEC Player of the Year awards while Glenville State's Mike McGarry was voted MEC Coach of the Year.
Glenville State came from behind to claim a two-shot victory over Charleston in the MEC Spring Classic. The Hilltoppers finished sixth in the seven-team field.
