CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Liberty University senior Alex Easthom has been named Mountain East Conference Male Golfer of the Year for the third straight year and Hilltopper junior Bo Orecchio has also earned first-team All-MEC honors.
The MEC announced its 2022-23 men's golf award winners and All-Conference honorees on Tuesday following the final round of the MEC Spring Classic at Edgewood Country Club.
The All-MEC selections are based on the individual scores in the five rounds of MEC-sponsored events during the 2022-23 academic year. Those events are the 54-hole MEC Championships, held in October at Avalon Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio and the 36-hole MEC Spring Classic that concluded here on Tuesday.
Easthom took medal honors in both events to win the MEC Golfer of the Year Award going away. The Ravenswood, W.Va. native posted a 4-under-par 138 in his two rounds at the MEC Spring Classic to notch a three-stroke win over West Virginia Wesleyan's Francisco Taboada in the medal chase. Orecchio also posted a Top 10 finish in the MEC Spring Classic, shooting 3-over-par 145 to place seventh in the medal standings.
Taboada and Juan Monckeberg of Glenville State shared Freshman of the Year honors and joined Easthom and Orecchio on the All-MEC First Team. Rounding out that list were Charleston's Rory Gorman and the Davis & Elkins duo of Jack Coleman and Lewis Beeden. Charleston's Will Johnson was named MEC Coach of the Year.
Davis and Elkins took home the team title in the MEC Spring Classic with a two-day total of 574. Charleston (582) was second, followed by West Liberty (588), Glenville State (596) and W.Va. Wesleyan (607).
