Danah Phillips set his fourth school record of his career with a 8:27.27 in the 3000m race finishing first out of 68 runners and freshman
Hunter Patterson tied the 200m record highlighting the West Liberty University men's indoor track and field team's second day at the Youngstown State University Mid Major Invitational on Saturday.
Phillips broke the school record, set by
Philip White in February of 2020, by more than eight seconds, as he placed first in a race that featured multiple Division I opponents. The graduate student from Clarksburg, W.Va. now holds the program record in the 1000m, one mile, 3000m, and 5000m races. He also was a member of the record-setting distance medley relay team, which etched its name in the record book on Friday.
The now former record holder,
Philip White, and senior
Brenden Sands both beat the previous program-best mark of 8:39.66 finishing in third and sixth places with times of 8:33.21 and 8:38.69, respectively.
Patterson headlined the sprinters tying the 200m school record, which has been standing for 10-plus years. He finished top-10 in a 104 runner race with a 22.24 tying Justin Frazier's record time from 2012.
Michael Harriman and
Tavian Richardson both finished top-10 in a 93-runner 800m race. Harriman, who is the current record holder, posted a 1:53.63 placing third, while Richardson crossed the line in 1:55.36 for an eighth place finish.
Graduate transfer
Ben Bumgarner ran a 4:24.69 in the one mile leading the Hilltoppers and placing 15th out of 99 runners.
Freshman
Luis Martinez earned thrower of the meet for WLU, placing sixth in the men's shot put with a 15.75m, his best mark of his young college career.
Resse Burnside vaulted over 4.45m on his first try, but could not get any higher finishing eighth in the seeded pole vault.
Freshman
Dorde Donovic (9.01) and senior
Dillon Meintel (9.02) finished neck and neck in the 60m hurdles, finishing 19th and 20th out of 44 hurdlers.
Dakota Thomas leaped a 1.84m in the seeded high jump event, while Donovic and
Jeremiah Blackmore both cleared 1.81m in the unseeded high jump.
Senior
Jared Alphonso finished 22nd in the triple jump with a 10.92m mark.
Jonathan Stout finished out his two-day heptathlon with a 12.20 in the 60m hurdles and a 2:58.37 in the 1000m race, while leaping over 2.15m in the pole vault. On Friday, he competed in the 60m (8.20), high jump (1.48m), long jump (foul), and shot put (5.29m).
West Liberty will have next week off and be back in action on February 11 at the Spire Collegiate Indoor Games in Geneva, Ohio.
