WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams return to action Friday as they compete in the 2026 Mountaineer Showcase, a full-day meet featuring a wide range of field and running events.
Competition begins in the morning with field events and continues into the evening with a packed schedule of track finals, giving the Hilltoppers another opportunity to build momentum during the outdoor season.
West Liberty enters the meet coming off a strong stretch of performances, including multiple event wins and record-breaking efforts in recent competitions.
The Hilltoppers have found success on the track, particularly in the relay events. West Liberty swept both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays in its last outing and will look to carry that momentum into Friday's showcase, with the event scheduled to begin the running portion of the meet at 4 p.m.
Athletes will also compete across a full slate of sprint events, including the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes, along with the 110m and 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
West Liberty's distance runners have been a key strength this season and will again be featured in several events, including the 1500m, 5000m, and 3000m steeplechase during the evening "twilight" portion of the meet.
The Hilltoppers are coming off dominant performances in distance events, including a 1-2 finish in the women's steeplechase in their last competition, and will look to continue that trend against a competitive field.
Field events will get underway in the morning with the hammer throw, followed by a full lineup that includes high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, javelin, and pole vault.
These events provide West Liberty with early scoring opportunities and a chance to set the tone heading into the track portion of the meet.
The Mountaineer Showcase schedule features a continuous flow of events from early morning through the evening, culminating with the 4x400-meter relays and distance races under the lights.
With strong performances across multiple disciplines this season, West Liberty will look to continue its upward trajectory and turn in another complete team effort on Friday.
