Easthom Ties for First at Golden Eagle Invitational

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Alex Easthom finished in a tie for first place to lead the West Liberty University men's golf team at the Golden Eagle Invitational earlier this week. Easthom shot a two-round total of 139 tying Paul Sanchez, of Charleston, atop the 101-player field.

The Hilltoppers turned in a tournament team-total of 591 finishing in seventh place out of 16 teams.

Easthom started the week off with a 70 (-1) on Monday which slotted him in a tie for fourth place heading into the final round. During the opening 18, the Ravenswood, W.Va. native holed five birdies, including three on the back-nine where he shot two-under par (35).

The sharp-shooting continued on day two with four birdies on the final round card. Easthom jumped three spots on Tuesday to finish in the tie for first after posting a 69.

Easthom tallied nine birdies to his record over 36 holes to lead the entire tournament. He also was the tournament leader in par-5 scoring, where he shot a two-day total of -6 for an average of 4.25 on par-5's. He birdied all four par-5's on the course on Monday and followed it up with 2-of-4 birdies on Tuesday.

Bo Orecchio and Noah Seivertson were the only other Hilltoppers in the top-35. Orecchio finished tied for 32nd with a two-round total of 148 featuring a 71 on Monday. Seivertson ended with a 149 total including a 73 in round one to tie for 35th.

West Liberty travels to the Laker Fall Invitational, hosted by Mercyhursy University, for its next outing this Friday and Saturday.
