CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team was well-represented on Tuesday when the Mountain East Conference announced the 2022 All-MEC Team at the conclusion of the MEC Spring Classic hosted by Berry Hills Country Club.
Senior Alex Easthom earned his second straight MEC Player of the Year Award and was joined on the first-team unit by fellow senior Howard Peterson IV. Freshman Noah Seivertson earned second-team honors for Coach Thadd Obecny's Hilltoppers.
Now a four-time first-team selection, Easthom locked up MEC Player of the Year honors on Tuesday when the Ravenswood, W.Va. native fired the only sub-par round of the MEC Spring Classic at Berry Hills to take medal honors in the final MEC event of the 2021-22 season.
The All-MEC Men's and Women's Golf Teams are based on the players' scores at the 54-hole MEC Championship Tournament in the fall and the 36-hole MEC Spring Classic. Players must post scores from all five rounds to qualify for All-MEC consideration. Easthom and Seivertson had finished in a third-place tie at the MEC Championships.
Peterson, who hails from Weirton, W.Va., is no stranger to MEC post-season laurels. This marks his second consecutive first-team selection and third of his career. Peterson also locked up his first-team spot with a strong showing on Tuesday, finishing third in the medal chase.
Seivertson, a true freshman from Wheeling, made an immediate impact on the MEC scene this fall when he stayed in the thick of the medal chase at his first-ever MEC Championship Tournament until the final hole. After struggling through Monday's first round at the MEC Spring Classic, he bounced back with a 76 on Tuesday to seal his All-MEC spot and help the Hilltoppers take the Spring Classic title.
Joining Easthom and Peterson on the All-MEC first-team unit are Charleston's Mitch Hoffman and Erik Ulvang, Wheeling's Yadhu Urs, Fairmont State's Clark Craig and Evan Lewis from Davis & Elkins.
The Glenville State duo of Fabricio Meza and Shaydon Johnson join Seivertson on the second team along with Victor Del Pozo Ramis of Charleston and Davis & Elkins' Jordan Hyland. Ulvang was named MEC Freshman of the Year and Charleston's Will Johnson was MEC Coach of the Year.
