CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team tied Davis & Elkins for runner-up honors and senior standout
Alex Easthom carded a top five finish in the medal chase as the Golden Eagle Invitational wrapped up here Tuesday at Berry Hills Country Club.
Coach
Thadd Obecny's Hilltoppers and the Senators posted matching 36-hole scores of 585 but couldn't keep pace with host Charleston, who posted the two lowest team scores of the tournament to win going away with a 571 total.
Gannon (526) was only a stroke behind WLU and D&E in fourth place with Indiana, Pa. (599) a distant fifth in the 14-team field.
Easthom, the reigning MEC Player of the Year, stayed in the thick of the medal chase throughout the event but couldn't mount a charge down the stretch to get over the hump.
Charleston's David Scragg took medal honors with a 2-under-par 138, one shot better than runner-up Connor Bennink of Gannon (139). Charleston's Mitch Hoffman (141) edged Easthom (142) out for third place in the medal standings.
The West Liberty men will be in Erie, Pa. this weekend to compete in the Mercyhurst Invitational. Play gets under way on Friday morning.
