SEBRING, Fla. – The West Liberty University men's golf team brought home the runner-up trophy here Tuesday as the Nancy Nichols Fall Invitational wrapped up its two-day run at Sun 'N Lake Golf Club.
Perennial NAIA power Southeastern (Fla.) posted an impressive 8-under-par team score of 856 to win the 54-hole event going away. Coach
Thadd Obecny's Hilltoppers eased into the No. 2 spot with a 22-over-par 886, well ahead of St. Thomas (Fla.) and host Webber International, which tied for third place at 897. Webber International's B team rounded out the top five at an even 900.
West Liberty senior
Alex Easthom bounced back from an opening-round 7-over-par 79 to go 69-73 over the final 36 holes and nab a Top 10 finish with a 5-over-par total of 221. Southeastern's Matt Soucinek took medal honors at 5-under-par 211, one shot better than runner-ups Kade Cannon of St. Thomas and Southeastern's Noah Endicott.
The West Liberty men will close out their fall schedule Oct. 23-24 when they compete in the Shriner's Hospital for Kids Invitational at Green Hills CC in Ravenswood, W.Va.
