Coach
Ben Howlett's Hilltoppers (25-4) led by as many as 30 points in the second half of Friday's 100-85 quarterfinal win against Concord.
Will Yoakum had a game-high 27 points and
Pat Robinson III added 22 more.
The Yellow Jackets (19-9) rallied past upset-minded Wheeling, 67-61, in their quarterfinal test, thanks to a game-high 30 points from All-MEC guard Glen Abram.
West Virginia State is a combined 7-3 all-time against West Liberty in WVIAC/MEC tourney action. The Hilltoppers won the most recent matchup, stinging the Yellow Jackets, 133-106, in a 2018 quarterfinal – the highest-scoring game in MEC Tournament history.
The teams traded home wins this season. West Liberty took a 112-84 nod in December at the ASRC but State beat WLU, 96-93, in last month's rematch inside the Walker Convocation Center.
That stands as West Liberty's only loss in its last 20 games, dating back to an 83-73 setback at Charleston on Dec. 11.
