West Liberty at Quinnipiac Results

HAMDEN, Conn. – The West Liberty University Acrobatics & Tumbling team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season here Saturday but it wasn't enough to prevent No. 3-ranked Quinnipiac from taking a 273.430 to 235.585 decision in dual meet action at the People's United Center.
Coach Treasure Fields' Hilltoppers (2-4) got off to a solid start in the Compulsory event, posting a 9.20 in the pyramid heat and a 9.35 in the toss but a 6.70 in the tumbling heat left the door open for the deep and talented hosts.
The Bobcats (1-2), whose only losses this season came at the hands of No. 1-ranked Baylor and No. 2 Oregon, posted a 9.75 in the pyramid and followed that up with a 9.90 in the toss before closing with an 8.90 in the tumbling heat.
That gave Quinnipiac a 37.15 to 32.95 lead heading into the Acro event and the Black and Gold were unable to climb back into contention.
After coming up short in the Acro event, West Liberty continued to show improvement in the Pyramid event, heading into halftime on the strength of a 9.00 score in the inversion heat and a strong 9.35 (off a 9.90 start value) in the open heat.
The Bobcats still held a comfortable 95.45 to 86.05 lead at intermission and were able to put the match out of reach when action resumed by stringing together scores of 9.70, 9.05 and 9.85 in the three heats of the Toss event.
Quinnipiac closed out the afternoon with impressive performances in the Tumbling and Team events to post their highest total score of the young season.
Despite the loss, Coach Fields and her youthful squad came away with several bright spots – not the least of which being the highest team score in a road match in WLU history.
The Lady Hilltoppers return to Mountain East Conference action on March 25 with a 6 p.m. dual match at West Virginia Wesleyan.
